Greetings from the Managing Director

Takaharu FUJITA

Takaharu Fujita, Patent Attorney, established the Olive International Patent Office in Minato Mirai, Yokohama, on October 1, 2003. Our firm has now many patent attorneys who have expertise in technical fields such as machinery, electrical and electronic, and chemicals and are familiar with issues related to intellectual property (IP) inside and outside Japan. Also, highly skilled staff work together to support these attorneys. Since our firm was founded, we have been receiving many requests for our services, which are highly regarded by our clients.

Our firm has grown steadily over the years, and we have not forgotten the fire of hope that burnt within us 17 years ago to continue growing further.

On the other hand, the current spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is changing the globalization that has supported economic growth so far. The world’s existing systems, such as working lifestyle and travel, have also changed significantly. Such global changes would affect the IP field as well, but we strongly believe that the importance of IP will never change. We hope to change the world for the better by supporting IP activities throughout the world. For that purpose, we have renewed our website and set our action goal, “Change the world through IP”. We will always keep this goal in mind to conduct our daily tasks in the hope of contributing to the world.

Origin of “OLIVE”

“Olive International Patent Office” is named after the olive tree, which is a symbol of
peace and victory. Intellectual property is often accompanied by legal battles. However, we
believe that creations such as inventions are produced with their primary purpose being to
contribute to human lives and the global environment through development of industry and
thus to contribute to the peace of the human race. We also believe that the creators of
inventions, designs, and other intellectual properties and the successors thereof must be
winners, receiving recognition for their contribution in unveiling their valuable creations
to the world. Thus, the name of our firm embodies our belief in the intrinsic value of
creations. By including the word “Olive” in the name of our firm, we define ourselves as a
group of people working with the goal of our clients’ peace and victory.

Our firm’s logo (Trademark Registration: No. 4871859) is the image of a budding olive that
symbolizes the moment when the seed of an invention turns into an idea. In the same way that
a small bud will grow into a tree and bear many olives, we want to carefully support and
nurture each invention as well.

Olives, which are indispensable in olive oil and martinis, are widely used and loved
throughout the world. The name of our firm also incorporates our hope that Olive
International Patent Office will be loved by our clients all over the world.
